Itinerary and highlights
Your accredited guide will share the history behind Dr. Woodson's groundbreaking career and also of his nearby historical landmark home.
Here you will be able to behold a larger-than-life steel statue of music great and DC native, Duke Ellington
We will not go inside the African American Civil War Museum, but we will spend time observing the monument in honor of over 200,000 soldiers.
Here we will pass by a sculpture dedicated to famous Black historical figures Malcolm X and Marcus Garvey by DC artist and local legend, Uzikee Nelson.
"Lady of Fortitude" is an important monument erected by the proud ladies of Delta Sigma Theta sorority at Howard University -- we will stop for a photo inside the campus's inner sanctum time and traffic permitting.
We will pass by the historic Langston Terrace Dwellings as not only do they represent early efforts to create public housing in the nation's capital, but they also feature public art memorializing the Black experience.
We will stop briefly by Chuck Brown Memorial park and behold the space that memorializes a single man who single-handedly fostered a singular sound with "Go-Go Music."
We have two statues to see here that will command our attention -- one of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and the other entitled "Emancipation" -- but we will let you decide whether the statue name is appropriate or not once you see it for yourself!
Arguably the most well-known Black monument in the nation's capital, the sheer size and scale command our attention on this stop. But inform as we must, we shall also spill some hot tea about 3 burning controversies surrounding this monument's installation!
We will pass by the historic John A. Wilson Building, which serves as the seat of the District of Columbia government and observe a statue of former famed DC Mayor, Marion Barry. While controversial, there is no dispute that he is a historic figure for DC.
