Private Washington National Cathedral Tour

Discover the beauty and meaning of Washington National Cathedral on a private tour led by a certified Cathedral guide. Explore one of America's greatest Gothic masterpieces through its architecture, stained glass, sculpture, history, and symbolism while enjoying a personalized experience tailored to your interests.

Unlike standard public tours, this private experience allows ample time for questions, photography, and deeper interpretation. When available, guests may also have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral tower for spectacular views of Washington, D.C. (tower access subject to Cathedral operations and separate admission).

Whether you're interested in history, faith, art, architecture, or craftsmanship, this tour reveals the Cathedral as far more than a beautiful building—it is a living work of art and a national place of worship, remembrance, and celebration.

Crypt level
Descend to the Cathedral's remarkable crypt, where Romanesque architecture creates a quieter, more intimate atmosphere. Explore chapels, memorials, and spaces of reflection while discovering how the lower level supports both the physical structure and the spiritual life of the Cathedral.
Along the way, we'll also examine the Cathedral's remarkable stonework and discuss how different building stones contribute to both the beauty and longevity of this extraordinary structure.

When available, ascend into the Cathedral's tower to experience the building from a perspective few visitors enjoy. Discover the remarkable engineering behind its Gothic design and admire sweeping views of Washington, where the city's monuments, neighborhoods, and landscapes reveal their connections in a whole new way.

Step outside to view the Cathedral as its architects intended—from the surrounding landscape. We'll explore the engineering of its flying buttresses, admire its remarkable stone carving and sculpture, search for the famous Darth Vader grotesque, and discuss how Gothic architecture combines beauty with structural innovation. Our journey concludes in the serene Bishop's Garden, where medieval-inspired design, seasonal plantings, and quiet pathways provide the perfect setting to bring together the themes of architecture, faith, history, and craftsmanship explored throughout the tour.
